You know, the remark made by Pope Benedict on Islam, the one that set the Muslim world ticked off? I don't blame them. To say that the Prophet endorsed the usage of violence to spread faith is hearsay, really. The wars fought during the Prophet's era weren't because he wanted to force Islam onto anyone.
To quote a 14th century remark and put it into a modern context just goes to show just how much some views on Islam haven't changed since then. Of course, it is true that in order to bring about dialogue and proper debate between faiths, some views expressed may seem offensive to the other side.
But still! Not even a year's passed since another European institution infuriated Muslims. You know, the cartoons.
All I can say is, expect more of the same from these people I guess.
